Hans A. Hofmann, Ph.D. (Director)

Dr. Hofmann is the Director of the CBRS and a professor of integrative biology at UT Austin. He also directs UT's Center for Computational Biology & Bioinformatics, where he has developed an innovative training program in big data research for the life sciences. His research interests focus on the genomic analyses of the brain in the context of social behavior, often using an evolutionary perspective. He received his Ph.D. in biology from the University of Leipzig and the Max-Planck Institute in Seewiesen. He pioneered behavioral and neurogenomics in cichlid fishes to analyze and understand the molecular and neural basis of social behavior and its evolution. He developed many of the functional genomics resources for cichlids and was a co-initiator of the cichlid genome consortium.



Loretta Cowen, Finance Manager

Loretta is the Finance Manager and Human Resource Coordinator for the ICMB and CBRS departments. Loretta joined the ICMB team in 1998 and has over 19 years of experience in accounting, grant and office management. She oversees financial structure related to the ICMB graduate program and CBRS service centers, managing and forecasting budgets and expenditures, in addition to reviewing operational performance to outline areas of cost reduction. In addition, Loretta serves as the Human Resource Coordinator for each unit, overseeing human resource support operations and serving as the internal consultant regarding related policies and procedures at UT Austin.


DeeDee Skidmore, Accountant II

DeeDee is the GSAF ccountant, financial analyst and interface with the university’s administrative systems.  She oversees all billing and purchasing activities, along with a wide range of functions that help our facility run lean and efficient, every day.   An expert organizer, DeeDee has introduced improved methods for streamlining financial record-keeping and reporting.  DeeDee joined the GSAF facility near the end of 2015, bringing many years of finance and accounting experience.


Bryan Medina, Supply Center Administrative Associate

Bryan joined CBRS as an Administrative Associate in 2014. He has over 15 years experience, including office management. He currently maintains the Biomedical Research Supplies Core and also provides support by processing invoices, billing and purchase orders for MGEF, Microscopy, Electronics, and Macro-Crystallography.
